For members who are concerned about their virtual Zoom recovery meeting being overrun or disrupted by Zoombombing, here is what you can do:
Be sure to lock down your meeting settings, this is a best practice even when people aren’t in fear of strangers disrupting their meeting. Here is what your Zoom meeting can do to protect yourself from outside or inside disruptions.
- Have multiple co-hosts. Assign at least one to monitor videos, one to remove last names, and one to monitor the chat.
- Mute all, and do not allow participants to un-mute themselves. Have participants raise their hands and have the host un-mute them when it’s their time to share.
- If someone is being disruptive or inappropriate, you can shut of their video or kick them out of the meeting.
- If the chat is being misused you can shit off private messaging, or shut off chat all together.
With multiple co-hosts, the meeting can continue with little to no disruption.
ZOOM MEETINGS PROTECTING ANONYMITY & DEFAULT SETTINGS
Some Information for adapting Zoom for Anonymous 12 Step Meetings
For Zoom users: Now that online meetings are accessible, we want to pass on best practices for protecting anonymity.
These have been curated from the membership and online resources. Some of the default Zoom settings run counter to the spiritual foundation of anonymity. Additionally, by default all Zoom meetings are recorded to the cloud. Turning that feature off is simple, fortunately. There are other settings in the Meeting sub-tab that can also be adjusted, such as disallowing remote control of devices, file transfer, data sharing with Zoom, and screen sharing.
Here are some suggested settings for your meeting to use. Please note that most, if not all, of the settings below are not the Zoom default:
Go to: Settings > Recording and click off the Local and Cloud recording features.
In the Zoom Settings section, under the Meeting sub-tab:
- Disable Auto saving chats
- Disable Feedback to Zoom
- Disable Screen sharing
- Disable desktop/screen share for users
- Disable Remote control
- Allow Virtual background (this is the Zoom default and allows the user to use a virtual background instead of the inside of their apartment, for example)
In the Zoom Settings section, under the Recording sub-tab:
- Disable Local recording
- Disable Cloud recording
- Disable Automatic recording
